If you have the electrical knowhow,,and the right tools,,any alternator is easy to test and repair.
The most common failure of an alternator is the Diode pack,,and/or the Voltage regulator.
some alternators have the regulator inside the body of the alternator,,and some have an external regulator.
The external regulators are easy to swap out,,,the internal ones require a little more work.
There are plenty of sites on the internet where you can get the step by step procedures for checking and rebuilding alternators.

Well are we talkin about a car alternator. Or something bigger like a ship alternator. Or a power station alternator. One golden tip is not to meger it without disconnecting any electronic bridge circuits. As youll fry them. Its HV then make sure its Circuit Main Earthed

The alternator is what really runs the car. Theoretically you can start the car, disconnect the battery and the car will still run. (I don’t recommend it). It is easier to replace the alternator then to repair it. Most places that sell alternators can check them before they install it.

altenator output voltage should be above 14 volts ampage will vary depending on state of charge of the battery but must be steady not fluxating (can check with clip on amp meter) the current output is what does the work in the system the voltage is the means of transporting it although it needs to be above nominal battery voltage ie 13.6volts lucas or auto electrician best bet to resolve fault
