My nephew has been in the hospital since he was born. He is now 9 months old. He is about to have another major surgery and is in need of blood. I have the same blood type as he does; OB-. The catch is I am pregant. Can I still donate blood to him with out harming my baby?

I know that you are not suposed to donate whenyou are pregnant, but under extreme conditions maybe you could ask your doctor if you could donate under doctor care? I really doubt if they would let you but you can try.

I donate blood at blood drives for the New York Blood Center, but once I found out I was pregnant, I looked at their website to see if I could still donate and it said to wait six weeks after full term delivery and a donation is only acceptable during pregnancy if it's medically indicated. However, I think that's only if there's a problem with the mother, not to donate for others. It's very noble of you to help your nephew, but unfortunately I don't think it's possible until after you deliver. It's best to check with your OB, though. Maybe you can donate a little bit, like half the amount given at a normal donation. Best wishes to you, your nephew and his family.

Even though you have an increased blood volume because of your pregnancy, you will not be allowed to donate blood. Your baby needs all the blood you produce, because it is how your munchkin gets its oxygen and food. I am sorry for your nephew, maybe you can call around to other relatives and ask them for help as well!

I am not 100% certain, but because you are sharing blood w/ baby your body needs what it has, I highly doubt you can give blood

depends on how far along you are. i have no idea what they would do in your situation. you should ask your doctor. i have a feelings that they won't let you. no need to risk your own baby when there are plenty of donors out there.

you def. need to ask your dr. they may not take your blood when you go to donate without a doctor's note saying it's ok.
