Don't listen to these people, a lot of times they do continue at school during the off season to get their degrees. Vince Carter took some heat because he went to his graduation on the same day as an NBA Playoff Game he had to play in later that night. A lot of guys go back to get their degrees. Shaq did, and Dwyane Wade recently said that he was shocked Marquette retired his number despite not having the chance to graduate in the past few years. But he will graduate eventually.
There are very few first year players who leave school at all, so the data is small on them, but a lot of players who leave college before graduating do continue part time until they get their degree.

The reason you go to college is to better your chances of getting a good job and making a lot of money. So once these players make it to the NBA where they will be making millions of dollars, there really is no reason for them to go back to school and very few do.

very rarely will they return to school, the $$$ calls their name and once they get a contract, they've got what they want. In the end, once they decide to get out, they may have made enough and done well with their money. I personally would go back and get my degree in something, it's something to fall back on should a knee injury or something happen where the contract becomes void.
