guess it probably depends on your definition of 'crotch rocket'. harley and indian had racing bikes back in the early 1900's. harley then came out with the Model K (which would become the Sportster) about 1955. In the 1960's there were several british bikes that were known for there speed ( Norton, BSA, Triumph). Also in the 60's Honda saved the motorcycling world, but not by the speed of their bikes; rather buy affordability, marketing and dependability. What we think of crotch rockets today can most likely be traced to Kaws and Suzuki's of the late 70's and early 80's.

1979 - the Ducati 900 MHR (Mike Hailwood Replica)
900cc desmodromic engine, full fairing, very fast, looks and handles like a dream. First factory bike of its kind. Looks like a race bike on the road (just like all the crotch rockets these days.)

first off a crotch rocket is a penis so your sure to know what that is the term crotch rocket is used buy the harley tools. sport bikes have been around for a long time

66 Suzuki 250 hustler two stroke, followed by the 1969? Kawasaki 500 Mach III. Neither had much in suspension, but were the bad boys of the decade.

I think you are basically correct eden. Generally older guys (30 +) will ride cruisers and younger guys will ride sports bikes. Of course there are always exceptions. I love to see a girl get into riding, but I don't necessarily find it a turn on or anything. A hot girl is a hot girl no matter what she is driving, riding, etc.

I agree with Baron that the GPZ was prolly the first modern superbike, but there were fully-faired track bikes and cafe racers a long time before that.
