What J. K. Rowling has stated is that it is her right as the author of the Harry Potter series to kill off the title character. The prophecy also does not stipulate that it is Harry who will die. What it says is that neither Harry nor Voldemort can truly survive (live the type of life they would like,) while the other survives. This is clarified when Harry asks Dumbledore in book 5 if this prophecy means that either Harry will have to kill Voldemort or Voldemort will have to kill Harry in the end, and Dumbledore answers in the affirmative.

Well, J.K. Rowling has made it clear that once the series is over it is going to be OVER and that's going to be that. She really doesn't want fanboys (and fangirls) begging for an eighth book in the series, so if he doesn't die, she is at least going to conclude with something very FINAL. She has had millions of readers wondering the question "What is going to happen the Harry?" for years now, it's about time she answered that burning question so it can just be over with.

J.K. Rowling said that he might die, but we won't know until the book is out. I think that it would be unfair if Harry dies (unless someone else kills Voldemort) because evil should NEVER under any circumstances triumph over good.

I remember hearing or reading an interview where she states that 'a main character' will die so that copycats do not create sequel books based on the ones which she has already written.

The only logical death that would successfully end this series would be Harry himself.

she states that a main character will die, not necessarily harry. although I think he would be the most logical choice. the last part of voldemort will be inside harry and to destroy him, he will have to destroy himself. I am just curious though, is professor dumbledore really dead? Has snape turned back to his evil self? or is there something else altogether going on?

I dont know who dies but I DID hear a rumor that SOMEONE does. It would be kinda dumb to kill off Harry though. You have no book or movie w/out Harry Potter.

a much more better twist for harry potter is that if he turned gay and became an alcoholic living in the streets telling everybody how he can turn frogs into rabbits.
