it means you can't run the premium or business versions and you won't be using aero

Yes, it's vista capable with the basic version of vista, however vista capable and vista ready are two different things. If your computer is vista capable you may still have to upgrade memory/graphics card or whatever. However, a vista ready computer means is completely up to standard and ready to install vista. Hope that made sense.

Like others have said, you won't be using Aero Glass, one of the most enticing features of Vista IS the Aero Glass interface and the 3D flip effect. You'll be able to correct this shortcoming with any new modern graphics card, provided this is a desktop.

Is it saying you can only run Basic or is it saying it recommends Basic because you can ignore the "recommended" tab.

yeah but u aint going to be able to use the Aero feature. And that is supposedly the best thing in vista.
