how long after you had sex does it take for a pregnancy test to come out positive

The earlist the test can work is a few days before the woman's next period; some tests won't work for up to a week after that. A blood test at a doctor's office or clinic may be more reliable, but the timing is about the same.

If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

The absolute earliest would be 5 days before you miss your period, but the earlier you take it the less accurate. You should ideally wait until the first day of your missed period, or go have a blood test at the doc's.

well if the period is alredy missed wait a week after that to possibly see anything...some tests say they can tell up to five days before the first missed period but that is only they have a sensitive test to detect the hormone pregnancy.

It's not about how long after sex - it's how close you are to your period due date. There are tests out there that can give an accurate reading before your period is even due.

some at home tests you can take the very first day the menstrual cycle is late. If you want to know for sure go to the doctors and ask.

I found out after about 2 weeks, but the line was very very very faint and I was confused as to whether it was even positive or not

I think it's two weeks. When i thought i was pregnant and i went to the doctor, she said the result isn't very accurate until two weeks after you have sex. Luckily for me...my results were negative anyway!

if she already missed her period than she can test now but if she gets a negative and still feels pregnant than she should wait a week or two before testing again.
