Continuous - a ramp to walk up
Quantized - stairs to walk up (different levels separated by the steps)

Continuous - slide
Quantized - ladder

Photoelectric cells are all around you - solar lights, solar calculators, safety devices on garage door openers to "sense" when something is in the way, security sensors at entrances to dressing rooms - break the beam of light and a bell sounds, sensors to open automatic doors at a grocery store, motion detectors.
