I have a laptop for over a year which I used as my main computer. It is connected to the internet via a wireless router and then obviously a modem. My internet connection works fine. This weekend I bought a desktop which I connected to the same router and that is how I connect to the internet with no problems. What I want to do is network them together to share files and a printer. I am pretty good navigating my way through XP but I can only seem to find places that allow me to set up a network that is both either wireless or wired but not both on the same network.

What settings do I need to change in order to have my laptop networked to my desktop. I just need the basics I can figure out the details.

The second part.
My desktop has vista on it. I feel like I am in room that no one is speaking my language when I am trying do anything that is not basic. So what do I need to do in order to get the desktop set-up up to network with my laptop.
