Our new home is 16 months old. In the 2 toilets we noticed a slight "dirt trail" into the bowl from the holes under the rim. It appears that the couple of areas in the bowl are getting "dirtier". We scrub the toilets 2x a week. There is no dirt in the bottom of the tank. Our faucet filters are clean. We can't see any sediment in our white tub either! We had a soft water system installed just after we moved in. Two doors away a new home has been under constuction the last 10 months. Could that have stirred up sediment in the water pipes? We live in a rural area and the water is supplied by the county. Wouldn't the water softener system filter the sediment? We live in Florida. Could it be mold inside the rim? We greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you. Jan

If you buy those blue toilet bowl cleaners and hang it inside your tank, that might get rid of the "tracks". I'm 99% sure you're neighbor's house didn't stir up any sediment of any kind. You could even use a small mirror to look up into the rim of the toilet bowl, and use a wire to clear out the holes.

o.k., what you have is a flapper issue, it doesn't seat well on the
flapper valve (this is all located in the toilet tank, allowing a very minuscule amount of water to leak into the bowl leaving residue
or encouraging mold or both. the fix is to cut the water off, remove
the old flapper, make sure the valve area is clear by any debris, and replace it with a good quality flapper. the construction going down the street really hasn't anything to do with you're problem.
hope this helps.

I actually have seen really countless propertys the position the owner change into attempting to shop funds. maximum vendors havn't the faintest idea as to pipe sizing, and what might want to bypass to the position. as an party i change into requested to position in an oil fired boiler merely, I requested to work out if something else of the plumbing change into okay to my astonishment the guy had plumbed the finished equipment in 15mm (1/2 inch) pipe. He naively requested what he might want to do, and my reply change into to get a plumber

Could be any of those thing I suppose. Try some straight bleach (at least a quart for each flush I'd say) in your tank and flush it several times at the next appearance of the stuff. Bleach kills mold pretty well, too.
