Mark Chapman had spoken to John Lennon hours before he lie waiting to shoot the world-famous former Beatle. He had asked Lennon for his autograph. Chapman told the police that "he had heard voices in his head telling him to kill the world-famous musician." John Lennon was killed on December 8, 1980 as he entered the Dakota, his luxury apartment building on Manhattan's Upper West Side, opposite Central Park, at 2300 local time.
