do you think its fair that students in schools have to stand up for the national anthem?I live in arizona and i go to a public middle school. Im mexican and the school that i go to is mostly mexicans or latinos. If students dont like some of the laws the government makes why do we have to listen to them? I was watching this guy that didnt want to stand up for the natinal anthem because of what he believes. In my school we have to stand up for it. Can students do the same thing that guy did? Most of my classmates dont think its fair mexicans are being arrested for crossing the border to have a better life. I also believe that WE mexicans shouldnt be arrested just for trying to get a better life. So my question is this...... Is it alright for us not to stand up for the national anthem? Dont we have freedom of speech? We should stand up for what WE believe not for something the government wants us to believe.

You came to this country to get an education. If you don't want to, then go back to Mexico. You should stand up and acknowledge a country's anthem no matter where you are. Quit being a brat. It's out of respect for a country.

The national anthem is not about politics its about respect. Its about showing respect to a country founded on the belief that ALL are created equal. Wether or not you agree with some of the laws is not the issue. Although it is some of those laws that give you the right to dsagree ,to free speech, to chose how to dress, to worship ect. I believe that it Was Alexander Hamilton who said that "Dissent is the greatest form of patriotism." When you are old enough and wise enough to truly understand the meaning of that ,then and only then, can you make a decision as to wether you owe this country the respect to stand up for the national anthem. I believe you will. In the meantime stand up because all students are required to do so.

It would seem to me, that if you think you will have a better life here, that you would want to follow the traditions and respect what you have here.

How can you personally enjoy the freedoms of an education in this country, all the while you complain about living in it?

That is hippocritical.

If dont like the government, bla bla bla, then it is up to you to make an even bigger stand and get out of here and make a better life for yourself in Europe, Asian, Austraila... or better yet.... MEXICO!!!

You are a child, and you know very little about what is going on out there.

You havent even finished your education, and yet you feel you are entitled to have a true opinion???

You are so quick to jump on the bandwagon, when you see somone else making some stand.. again, this guy is enjoying the benefits of living in this country and he can show utter disrespect to the traditions of this country???

I tell you what...

you get yourself an education (go out of your way to do well in school), get a job, do something with your life, and then you can go ahead and have an opinion about anything you want.

At least you will have some amount of knowledge and life experience to back up your cause.

In the meantime, stop complaining, and continue to use this country as a means to get free and easy education, and a real life.

PS: Mexicans are not being treated like garbage.. they are getting a free education and free healthcare, affirmative action, etc..
whoa is you!!

mex aren't getting arrested 4 trying 2 get a better life, they're getting arrested for entering this country without legal documents. Every country has borders, that's how we protect ourselves--or would u like 2 see more terrorist attacks here?

Any Mexican who is so desperate 2 come here SHOULD be happy enough 2 stand up during the playing of the National Anthem.

Shame on you....

Yes, I do think you should have to stand for the national anthem. If you don't like the laws here then go back to Mexico if you find those more favorable. You don't think its fair being arrested for breaking the law? That's what illegal immigrants are doing. The first thing they do upon entering this country is break the law. No, if you are illegal, you don't have freedom of speech.
