I heat with a wood stove and was almost out of wood (maybe 1 1/2 days worth left). A friend of mine from another state drove for over 3 hours to deliver me some wood for free! I cried at the generosity of this gentleman. My vet clinic operated on my dog for such a cheap price I wonder how they make a go of it. See, I have recently found out I have a terminal illness and have just started to get S. S. Disability money. Before that I was living on a couple hundred dollars a month from the state while waiting for S.S. money to start. My resources were all dried up. And, of course, how can I not mention the compassion that my daughters' and granddaughters' have given me - putting me and my dog, Sadie, first and foremost in their lives. Compassion is alive!

A good friend was there for me when I was going through a difficult time recently. I was dealing with the grief of someone close to me passing away unexpectedly. My friend listened and was sympathetic. She came over & picked me up & helped me make arrangements. She bought me lunch (I wouldn't have eaten anything) and came and spent the day with me so I wouldn't be alone. She even cleaned up around the house. Doing things I wouldn't have had the will or energy to do. She made me tea. She let me cry on her shoulder & comforted me. My boyfriend was very supportive as well but he had been at work all day & I couldn't reach him. He came over as soon as he could in the evening. My friend stayed with me until he showed up. It meant a lot. It would have been scary to be alone that day. When I needed someone there, my friend was there for me. She is a very compassionate, caring person. I needed a guardian angel & she was it...

I witness the compassion of a company that I work for keeping on managers who haven't a clue when it comes to using 21st century tools and ideas to keep the company competitive despite the drag they have on our ability to compete in the market.

I don't know if its exactly compassion, but I sure do love to see anyone put their shopping cart into the corral instead of leaving it to bang up someone else's car. The people in my grief group listen respectfully and encourage others when they really hurt.

Recently, while shopping in the mall with my daughter, we had words, and it upset me so badly that I had tears in my eyes. We went our separate ways, she continued to shop, I went for a cup of coffee. An older man followed me, and I began to get a little nervous...so I turned to ask him what he wanted. When I turned, he simply grabbed my hand and said..."the young seldom see that they pain us. By the time they learn, we have gotten over it." He just smiled, turned and walked away.

A doctor I know met a person who was very ill. She took him to her clinic, and treated him without asking for pay.
