I woke up this morning with a sore throat and a runny nose. I just want to know what's the fastest way to get over a cold? I have to work all day tomorrow and I can't miss work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm currently taking Theraflu Cold Medicine

Thanks everyone!

Sweat it out.
Seriously, put on lots of layers (sweat pants, sweat shirts, etc), cover up head to toe (dont forget a hat), put on tons of blankets and drink some nice hot tea...and if you have a heating pad, lay on it.
Sweat that sucker right out of you, keep covered up no matter how much you are sweating, by morning it'll break and you'll feel 100x better.

Lots of warm fluids and rest. I would also suggest taking an OTC decongestant immediately. Blow your nose as much as possible to get rid of the increased phlegm. Sore throats are caused by the bacteria in the phlegm draining down through the throat. Unfortunately, there will probably never be a cure for the cold :(

Along with drinking TheraFlu, look for a powder mix called EmergenC. You should be able to find it in the vitamin section. EmergenC is overloaded with just about every vitamin known to man and tastes like a light citrus drink. (And a little heads up - a great thing to drink when you have a hang over!)

Hope you get to feeling better soon!

At the very first sign of illness, I take about 4-6 acidopholis right away. These are the ones that have chewable 1 billion at the time of manufacture and I usually get them at Walgreen's for $6.50 or so. Then I drink, drink, drink water - about 3 glasses right away.
2 hours later, I take another 2 acidopholis and drink another 2-3 glasses of water with it. I start to feel better usually after this second dose, but I have to keep drinking water all day.
The trick is excrete as much urine as possible, but don't make yourself sick with all the water you're taking in. Be sensible.
Wash your hands about 15 times that day. Everything you have touched has your fresh germs and whomever you got it from, so you have to keep washing.
Eat 4-6 small healthy meals. What this does is put even more fluid into your system, along with replacing the needed nutrients that you are washing away (along with the bad bacteria) with all that water you are drinking.
Like other people have said, get your vitamin C and zinc. That EmergenC sounds like a really good idea, so use that, too.
Remember: flush out the bad stuff and fortify yourself with the good stuff. Good luck!

There is a natural product that is made by Source Naturals, it is called Wellness formula. I have used this for the flu and colds and anyform of sickness, even for my allergies. It really really works. I have recommended it to several other people and they have had success with this product also. This may be a good product for you to try. Buy the Tablets and not the capsules. Mainly because you have to take twice as many of the capsules and as it is you have to take 3 tablets every 3 hours. I've found the best price to be at www.vitacost.com otherwise you can find them at your local health food store.Beware not to stop taking them too early. I take them a couple of days longer even when I feel good just to make sure that it doesnt relapse.

Sinutab will help with sinus pain , cough syrup with sore throat, but your body has to fight off the virus itself. There is no cure for a virus based cold. Vitamin C and fruits and vegetables will help your body fight the infection. Hot cider is good as well and rest when possible and drink lots of fluids.Good luck!

Get a cool mist humidifier. Next time you feel you are coming down with something, add a pint of hydrogen peroxide to the gallon tank, and run it at night while you sleep. You should waken feeling better than you felt when you went to sleep. In a couple of days it will be gone.

I agree with Munya Carr's answer.

Raising your body temperature is a natural defense mechanism for your body to fight against foreign microbes. The body raises the temperature to such range that is out of the tolerance of offending culprit or at least detrimental to their survival, just think fever but in a larger scale.

Just the basics in self care will help. Plenty of water, juice, and teas with lemon to rejuvenate and flush out the toxins. Plenty of rest. Avoid any stressors, and eat good, healthy, nutritious foods to build up your immune system. A good tea to try is echinacea. Good luck!
