patting them on the back =]

There isn't a specific cure for baby hiccups. I would advise to not give them anything to drink because pending how old they are, they may choke on the liquid.

You can try patting and/or rubbing their back. Some babies get fussy when they get hiccups because they are irritating and sometimes painful, just hold them and they eventually go away on their own after a few minutes or so.

The hiccups is basically an air bubble getting trapped in the oesaphagus. Swallowing helps that's why it's usually recommended you give them grip water. But basically a syringe of water if the baby is really small or a few sips of water, juice, milk if the child is bigger will help.
My doc. said that hiccups bother adults more than kids anyway.

Run water over the binky or your finger and dip it in sugar and let baby suck the sugar off. Adults can let a packet of sugar sit on their tongue for a moment then take a sip of water, to get rid of theirs. I also remember reading in one of the parenting magazines that it's the diaphram that causes hiccups, so if you can blow in baby's face or take them out in the cold for a moment(I never tried that one myself, lol) and get them to gasp, it resets the diaphram, so to speak, and ends the hiccups. But for my baby, 9 out of 10 times the sugar will work, the other time she needs a burp. Good luck!

water, but I have always been told that when a baby has hi ccups that only mean that it is growing so if I were you I would let the baby have the hiccups as long as it is not causing the baby to throw up are that it makes the baby uncomfortable let the baby grow.

The best way I have found is a SUGAR free sucker...for some reason when the child sticks his/her tongue out the hiccups will stop within the minute...the other adults ones I know wouldn't work because you can't really explain to the child what to do...but breathing in really deeply (not holding breath)

try to burp him or her and if that doesnt work give the baby a bottle, the swallowing forces the hiccups to stop, it works for me, my baby and my babys doctor told me to do that! it really works!! you dont have to do formula if the baby drinks water give it water if its not feeding time for the baby.

Sucking on the paci or nursing the baby would usually stop my baby's hiccups. I don't believe that they don't bother babies, because my son was always fussy when he would get them.
