My project title is * are children better motivated by reward or punishment?*
and my teacher said she wont approve it until I get a procedure.
She said I have to use the 2nd graders... but how do I find out if their motivated by punishment or reward?

If you have time, then go into the classroom and do the experiment. One day do the reward experiment and write down or document everything you do and how the children responded. The next day go back into the same classroom and do the punishment experiment and do the same thing. Chart your findings after the data is collected.

A good reward activity would be a bean jar. Everytime you ask the class to do something, they need to do it as a team. If everyone does what is asked of them, then state a set amount of beans the team earns everytime they work together cooperatively and attentively. Remember do not use them as a threat, ex. "If you don't do that, than you don't get any beans!" Ignore the negative behavior and focus on the positive behavior. Really praise them. When the class fills the bean jar they can vote on what they want to do (appropriately) for 15 min. Or maybe an extra 15min. at recess.

The punishment experiment needs to be done the same way except this time you won't praise them as much. You should definately use the beans as a threat this time. Say such things as, "If I see you do that again I will empty the bean jar and everyone will lose out because of you!", or "I'm not seeing good teamwork. You must not want any beans for your jar." Use very negative language. Focus more on the beans than on the trying or good behavior of the students.

OK, heres what you do

Pick 3 girls and 3 boys

but a boy and a girl in a group

you now have 3 groups

group 1: control
group 2: punishment
group 3: reward

tell all three groups to something and tell group that if they do it they will get a reward, group 3 gets a punishment if they dont and nothing happens for group 1

a control group is critical
i won a science fair because i was the only one with a control group

Try a few activities with them. Do one activity where if they win they are given a prize (reward). Do another activity where the losers get something taken away from them (punishment). Try a few different games or activities of each type. Which type do they seem to be enjoying more? Which are they more competitive with??

I would see if the child protection agency have studied and show what you find in a flow chart and make a mini presentation about it

Just get a coupple of bratty ones and tel them to do something. If they don't do that than tell them you'll give them candy. Then tell the other one that if they don't do that they'll get detention or something. :)
