Get a Dr. to have the affected area cultured and an antibiotic susceptibility test done to the organism. This will tell the Dr. what the Staph may be "sensitive" to. Then take ALL the medicine the Dr. prescribes(to keep from developing a resistant strain of Staph). If you really have a Staphylococcus (aureus) infection, it is very important to have a susceptibility test done to rule out one of the many resistant strains.

Staphococcus is a pretty common bacteria that's resident on the epidermis. It can be difficult to treat with topical antibiotics. If over the counter triclosan doesn't work (a triple antibiotic ointment), you'll need to go to the doctor, who better give you an oral antibiotic if there is any hope for treatment. Ketamine is a good antibiotic for staph, but they can do a culture to determine what it's resistant to. I had a staph infection for 6 months until i finally went to the doctor, got oral antibiotics, it cleared right up.

A staph infection is a bacterial infection; while most staph infections usually result in zits and boils, they can cause a lot of life threatening illnesses if its serious, such as pneumonia, and meningitis. The doctor will probably have you examined and prescribe you some anti-biotics, or even some vaccinations. I reccomend a doctor immediately.

It typically involves being treated by a doctor, as others have mentioned and as more will answer with as well. Sooner rather than later - I'm not sure how you know it is a staph infection because it appears you haven't been to the doc yet, but know that cutaneous infections can often get bad pretty fast.
