Staph infections usually result from poor hygiene. Staphylococcus occur naturally on the skin and mucus membranes of humans but when they get into cuts or wounds they can become pathogenic. Keep cuts clean and covered, stay away from hospitals, and if you suspect a staph infection get it looked at right away (I know I just told you to stay away from Hospitals but this is important). One type of Staph, S. aureus has been found to be penicillin resistant and can become really dangerous in a very short time (Toxic Shock Syndrome).
