Of course it is....manufacturing is what made the American middle class, and that "giant sucking sound" that Ross Perot talked about is now being heard loud and clear.
And of course it's all about company profits and CEO's making a gazillion dollars at the expense of the workers. Now that GM has plants in Mexico, do you see the price of automobiles plummeting? Har!
Every time I see on the news how many new jobs were 'created' here, I wonder how they compare to the jobs that have been lost, since the majority of new jobs are either part-time (re: no benefits) or minimum wage. Consider the good-paying union jobs that have left the country, and there's no comparison.
That bastard Clinton sold organized labor down the river, and the entire country (except for Bush's war machine) is paying the price. The morons who talk about a 'global economy' need to gt a clue that their much-vaunted ideals just means bringing the U.S. down to the levels of third-world countries.

Historically speaking big business has always taken the low road to operational cost. Outsourcing is a good example. By allowing items and services to be produced and supplied outside the US, they save money. Which has a adverse effect on the taxes the government can collect. The employees in other countries don't pay taxes into the US tax base, which causes taxes to others working domestically to go up. Any company that outsources these types of things should be placed in a higher tax bracket to offset this. Now the companies will argue that their share of the corporate taxes they pay is large enough. But the people that find them selves out of work may not immediately be able to find gainful employment right away. They collect unemployment, go without health care, and are a burden to the rest of us. Cobra coverage is expensive after your position has been eliminated. On the other hand companies that do not outsource could be granted tax breaks for keeping people employed domestically.

If you were to call Dish Network customer service, your call is probably handled by a call center operating in India.

Outsourcing in the long run makes companies stronger and better and that means more jobs for everyone in the US and abroad. The Defense industry maybe the #1 industry in America and it's going to stay that way for a long, long time so I don't think you need to worry about US made tanks. US still has the best higher education in the world including engineering schools and that won't be changing for quite some time too.

People in this country forgot the true meaning of Job Security,

A- Your Employers ability to make a profit
B- .Your ability to perform

When government regulation creates an unprofitable environment for businesses they move.

When government makes it possible for certain people (I once worked for AT&T and have seen affirmative action at its very worst, I also have worked with many people from different minorities who worked so damn hard it was very difficult to keep up with them) to warm a chair and keep their job then business up and moves.

This is what we called globalization.

It is not a matter of choice. We live in it.

From Kuala Lumpur with love.

By the way, you made us here produce Intel too! Thank you.

See both side of the coin. Advantages have been reaped by outsourcing and naturally you have to forego some of your interests. Thus there would be the disadvantages of local labour foregoing work.
