The fastest production car use to be the McLaren F1...

"The F1 previously held the record for the fastest production car ever made, with an independently measured top speed of 241.35 mph (391 km/h). It has a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds. This has been bettered by the Bugatti Veyron 16.4. However Bugatti Veyron 16.4's engine is assisted by four turbo's while the F1 is normally aspirated."

HOWEVER, the fastest car on EARTH currently is the ThrustSSC which holds the current fastest land speed record of 763 MPH (Mach 1.016) which broke the sound barrier...
