yes absolutely 100% i blame that ridiculous test, the kids dont learn like we did when we were kids, they learn to pass a test, some kids have problems with tests, and can be straight A's in every course of study, it is the most absurd test ever demised, i was so happy to see another lousy bush get out of office, just to find that the new governer supports the same garbage!!my daughter is 12, her tests are so difficult that my friends in college cant even help her with it, id say that its just a bit out of touch with what education is all about, these kids are so worried about this, that even if they try with all their heart, and fail, and get kept behind, its embarrasing to them, and they are dropping out by the dozens, no child left behind my a**!! more is left behind than ever before!!

i don't think it is the cause, even though i am a teacher and i see the pressure and frustration of the standardized testing every day. the rise in teen suicide coincides with the time that warning labels were placed on antidepressant medications about increased risk of suicidal thoughts in children with use, and doctors decreased prescriptions for them to teens by about 20 percent. they are now thinking the meds did more good than harm in already suicidal teens, and withholding the medication is causing the teen suicide rate back to before antidepressants were invented.

I don't believe so. The people who didn't care about the original tests (Ninth Grade Profiency test in my state) don't care about the new tests (OGT, or Ohio Graduation Test). If people don't pass it then they probably also don't work in school, unless they have test anxiety. Most likely if they didn't pass it, then they also wouldn't have graduated without it being a graduation requirement.

The first wasn't that hard and the second is fairly easy. Sadly, we have less chances to pass the harder one. It makes SO much sense.

There's nothing wrong with testing. It's a measure of how well the schools are doing. It is wrong that the teachers responded by teaching kids how to take tests instead of educating their students.
NCLB should be reworked, this time leave Kennedy out of it.

No, children aren't pressured because of the attempt to get them to learn, and potentially graduate - schools and administrators are.

NO.
My reasoning - because you can't blame everything that's wrong with our youth on our educational system, which it seems is where your question seems to be leaning. How about parental influence, or lack of, on the child's life, drugs, society in general, lack of morals, blah, blah, blah ....

No, correlation does not mean causation. Kids are just too damn depressed these days, I'm sure a basic math test is not causing people to kill themselves.
