Tonight, I turned on one of the burners of my stove. It ignited and then it looked as if half of the burner was on. I only had 100 flame when I turned the gas to low. I checked all of my burners and they all did this.

This was the first time I turned my stove on today. Yesterday, everything worked fine. I had the oven heating while I was trying to turn on a burner.

It's been v. cold these last few days (highs of 4F, lows in the negatives)

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

We are on natural gas.

When I tried to do it again to show my husband, the flame "came back" full force.

Could the weather have anything to do with this?

Chances are if it doesn't do it again then you will never know what the problem was. If you check with the gas co. you may find out they had a broken main somewhere at the time this happened. If that had happened you will never know that a broken main was fixed and your problem will not reoccur.

Three possibilities.

1: Gas pressure is low, could be from moisture in the meter, or a large demand for gas in your area. Call the Gas Co.

2: Grease or other foreign object clogging orifices. Remove the burner caps and clean them. Use a needle to clean out the holes.

3: The regulator valve in your stove is keeping the pressure too low and not allowing enough gas to pass the valve. Call a service tech. to repair the stove.

Start with the cleaning, Then call the gas co. that should be free. The problem is that if the gas co. comes and it is not there problem they will probably shut the stove off until you can get it repaired. The Service guy will cost some money.

You may be witnessing the reaction of a gas stove when gas pressure is low because of usage.
