The SIM cards themselves are nothing special other than the information on it will allow your cell phone to access a specific cell phone service. The cell phone itself is a different story.

Cell phones are essentially glorified radio transceivers. For your cell phone to work in Vietnam requires it to be on the same frequency as a service in Vietnam or anywhere you intend to use it. Most cell phone services operate within a common range of radio frequencies. Also, you might be in luck with your Cingular phone.

AT&T had the most universal cell phone coverage in the world. Their cell phones could be used just about anywhere in the world. AT&T cell customers could even use their AT&T cell service while traveling abroad. AT&T and Cingular merged, which tells me that your cell phone service may have the same capability.

My reccommendation would be to check with Cingular tech support on whether you can use your Cingular service in Vietnam (tech support is not the cute blonde at the mall where you subscribed for your service). Also check with a travel agency that books a lot of travel to Vietnam. If at the least, they will have connections in Vietbnam that can check with cell phone services there for you.

Good luck and Happy Tet!
