I already have two Golden Barbs in it, I was thinking of having two Angel Fish. I know about the inch per gallon rule, which means if I get two Angel Fish I'd be pushing it. Does anyone have any suggestions of community freshwater fish that would go well with the Golden Barbs?

I have two Golden Barbs in a ten gallon tank. I keep them with two black skirt tetras and three danios and an algae eater. They get along fine.

The inch per gallon rule doesn't apply to fish any bigger than small tetras and guppies. Angelfish need a minimum of 10 gallons per fish plus a 20 gallon base, so they definitely will not work ina 10 gallon tank.

I'd get a few more barbs to start with; barbs are nippy fish but get less nippy if there are more of them. Get at least 4... And that's pretty much the limit. Golden barbs grow to be about 3-4" long, so even with only 2, and even if you used the inch per gallon rule, you're using up 6 of your gallons.

And since you have gravel, rocks, wood, plants, etc, in your 10 gallon tank, that really ends up to be only 8-9 gallons.

You could, however get a handful of neon tetras, harlequin rasboras, or glowlight tetras; or a couple plati fish.

No angelfish in a 10 gal tank. They'll either end up dying, you'll have to get a much larger tank or take them back to a pet store.

I would get another Gold barb (try and have 2 females to one male) and 5 - 7 neon tetras. You can also put a couple corydoras in.

OR instead of the tetras, you can get 5 - 7 Harlequin Rasboras. They are lovely, peaceful and usually occupy the top half of the tank!

Angel fish can get fussy I would go with some mollies or guppies and a pleco.

you can overcompensate for slightly crowding the tank by cleaning more often.
