1. (0,2), (-5,0)

m=0-2 / -5-0=2/5

y=mx+b
2=2/5 (0)+b
2=b

y=2/5 x+2

2. (-3,0), (0, -2)

m=-2-0/0-(-3)=-2/3

y=mx+b
-2=-2(0)+b
-2=b

y=-2/3 x -2

To figure out this problem you need to know two equations!! the first equation is for slope (Slope = m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) ) Where your point (0,2) is in the form (x1,y1), & your 2nd point (-5,0) is in the form (x2,y2)

After subbing your points into this formula you find out that the slope of problem 1 is "+2/5".

The second thing you need to know is that the equation for the form of a line (standard intercept form that is) is y=mx + b, where b is the y intercept of your line. You already know m=2/5

If you plot your two points on a graph paper (Scrap paper would do fine, you would see that the intercept of the line is +2)

therefore the equation of the line for number one is y=(2/5)x + 2

For problem number 2, the answer comes out to be y= (-2/3)x - 2. You complete problem 2 using the same method as problem 1.

y = mx +b
b is where the line intercepts the y-axis or where x=0
m is the slope or the rise/run or the change in y over the change in x
So
1. y = ( 2-0/0--5 )x + 2
or y = 2/5 x + 2

2. y = ( 0--2 / -3-0 ) x+ -2
or y = 2/-3 x -2 OR y = -2/3x - 2

1. (0,2), (-5.0)

0-2
5-0= -2/5

y-2=2/5(x-0) = y-2=2/5x-0 = y=2/5x+2

2. (-3,0) (0,-2)

-2-0
0-3= -2/-3
y-(-3)=-2/-3(x-0) = y+3=-2/-3x-0 = y=-2/-3x-3
