I think it is OK in certain places. but you can't walk into most places with a motorbike helmet on so whats the difference? Rules are Rules despite Faith. Cross bearers are discriminated against in a majority christian society. Its CRAZY. its tit for tat, people should get on with life and quit moaning.

It is a question of the safety of the population of this country. The answer that mentions fully covered women not challenged at airports is a case in point. We have heightened security on flights - restricted baggage etc, we are not allowed to smile in passport photos, can't show bare shoulders etc etc. Yet the wearers of these garments are allowed to flout all the safety rules and immigration laws. Why? We have recently had well publicised cases of murderers fleeing Britain disguised in one of these garments. How do you know who is under them? Some woman wanted to wear one whilst teaching in school, am I the only one who remembers Beslan? We are told the extremists are plotting atrocities what better way to plant a bomb? Many Muslim women abhor the thought of being condemned to the tyranny of draping themselves in these hideous things, they want to live their lives to the full. It is not in the Koran nor is it part of Islamic teaching. I also fail to see how people separating themselves in this fashion can be said to be assimilating themselves, they are in effect cutting themselves off from society completely. If they and their men want to have this kind of life there are plenty of countries that will allow them to do so and this being a free country they are at liberty leave.

Apparently clothes are not merely worn as protection from the environment. They are used to send out cultural/social signals too. A muslim woman by wearing the full burqua is presumably expressing her devotion to Islam and also that she is only for the gaze of her husband. 'Do not touch..don't even look!' Also since the husband would be expected to do most of the negotiations outside the home, she would not be expected to engage in verbal communication with outsiders.
From the western perspective the full veil sends out the message 'we are exclusive..we are different to you..you may not engage with us..we reject your culture as we are superior to it'
Best advice: in social situations, ignore the veil issue with polite indifference.

No. Would you marry one with a veil and be told you may kiss the bride now?
If you said yes it would look good on you if she lifted the veil and gave that laugh of hers.
You guessed it PHYLLIS DILLER.

To be forced to wear the veil is oppressive but to be forced not to wear the veil is equally oppressive. It should be a matter of choice.

I went through Birmingham airport just before Christmas on the way to Spain and there were quite alot of muslem women traveling.I don't know where they were going but many of them were in full burquas, not to sure of the spelling but I,m sure you know what I mean. When we went through security both I and my lady ,both in our 60,s,had to remove our shoes and I had to remove my belt, then through passport control both had our faces and pasports studied.I don't mind this but the Muslem women,if in fact they were women ,did not have to show there faces.

Yes it should be banned. I am not racist, but I would not talk to a letter box aperture.
