What is it you disagree with, the choice to BE homosexual, or the choice to DO the acts? Because if it's both, you ARE homophobic, which is essentially an attitude by people who think hatred will force change in that practice - when in fact you can't change the nature someone was born with.
And if you are only against them actually doing the things they have a natural inclination to do, you may or may not be homophobic, depending on your reasons for that opinion. However, most people who disagree with the practice are also against the right for these people to exist to begin with. So while you say you're not afraid of them, that's probably a way to NOT admit you also don't like what they are as well as what they do. You are trying to justify your homophobia by pretending you have something else that only looks homophobic.

hmm....people sorta generalize the word homophobic. It doesn't always mean that you're afraid of gays, sometimes the word just means that you don't like them at all.
You seem to be the type of person who's okay with it, as long as they don't flaunt it in your face. I don't see that as being a homophobe. I see that as being tolerant. That's good. I wish more people could be tolerant.

Well, you've got a point there, because most people who dislike gays are not "afraid" of them... whereas people with arachnophobia, for instance, are truly AFRAID of spiders.
I don't buy any of this "most homophobes are secretly homosexuals themselves" nonsense. Most gay-bashers are that way because they grow up in extremely conservative and/or religious families. They really can't think for themselves.
I am not a homophobe... but I do find many gay men of the flamboyant variety to be truly annoying!

Homophobia is a medical/psychological term. There is a defining test for homophobia. So, in brief, if you just disagree with homosexuality, obviously you have no difficulty functioning together with gays in your employment or school, or even being friends with them (I don't agree with Republicanism, but I have several Republican friends, and work with them all the time) -- feel no need to attack them, and no need to defend your own masculinity because it feels threatened -- so you are not homophobic -- *shrug* ok.... Then what?

I feel that question has already been answered, but to emphasize the point: How do you act when you're afraid of something? Nervous, angry, upset. "Fear also can be described as a feeling of extreme dislike towards certain conditions, objects, people, or situations," according to wikipedia.
In the words of the wise Francis Maude, "It always seemed to me a bit pointless to disapprove of homosexuality. It's like disapproving of rain."

The connotation for homophobic comes from homophobic people's natural inclination to put distance between themselves (that's you) and homosexuals (that's me). It is also in reference to percieving non-sexual acts (hugging, handshaking, etc.) with a marked internal nervousness.

ditto to collegedebt's answer. also, the meaning of the term homophobic has expanded to include a general hatred or dislike of homosexuals. it's akin to the term racism - it doesn't necissarily mean you are afraid of black people, you just have stereotypical/hurtful/stupid ideas about them. same with homophobia.

to be afraid and the hate them and call them f@gs and d*kes is being homophobic, just like some of the people that get on here and try to spred their hatred.

People phobia means intolerance not necessarily fear! It can even refer to things unrelated to people. If a substance cannot handle water then it is a hydrophobic substance. With people phobia can mean fear, but it can also mean an irrational hatred.
