i have an ipod nano, 1st generation, and a dell computer

ok so i found out one of the problems could be that i haven't pushed the eject button before unplugging it from the computer...anything i could do?

u dont ahve to restore teh ipod.....just re-install itunes...

anyways for restoring an ipod

Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button.

the new itunes needs internet connection for it to restore an ipod or any ipod, i guess. they combined the ipod updater/restorer with the itunes unlike what it was before. if you are not connected to the internet you may not be able to restore the ipod. the internet is needed so that the firmware can be updated automatically after a restoration. an ipod reset doesnt do a restore.

Did you try reinstalling iTunes first. Well you can if you go into options.
