'Time for lust, time for lies, time to kiss your life goodbye.' Is it saying that people who follow Christianity will fall into lust, lies, and die, or a false messiah can lead you into lust, lies, and death?

OK, if the question is what's the meaning of Metallica's song then the answers could be correct, but the phrase "leper messiah" was used by David Bowie in the song Ziggy Stardust...:
Making love with his ego,
Ziggy sucked up into his mind.
Like a leper Messiah,
When the kids had killed the man I had to break up the band.

You had to have been there, but in the mid-80s we were drowning in TV televangelists & their 'flocks' who followed along like lemmings. Not surprisingly, along came the song Leper Messiah. Unfortunately, other bands decided to cash in on that theme too, lol.

I think it's about people following the ministers who say give me your money if you want to get into heaven. It is about the people who follow blindly and believe that just because they show up and give their money every week, that does not guarantee them a spot in Heaven. The Leper Messiah is referring to the ministers people blindly follow to their own demise. Here are the lyrics http://www.lyricshead.com/lyrics/metallica/leper-messiah-lyrics.html

Perhaps they were saying that as one reaches enlightenment and becomes more self sufficient those who you have idolized soon fall apart much like the body of a leper falls apart as leprosy progresses

leper messiah means that the messiah has leperacy. lepers wer shunned and forced to live in isolated colones. so it is talking about the people shunning christianity as though it were a leper and how the church is corrupt and we are better off without it.

Yeah, you're almost right...here's what I've read about this song:
James wrote this song acout his mother's death.
She used to be deep in the christianity, that even when she got cancer, she refused to take any pills or medicine in order to cure herself,'cause she used to believe that her faith would save her...
Ironicly she died at the end.

The lyric theme of this song is about the ''Televangelists'' who use people's faith to make money & they actually treat people like ''Puppets''...
''...send me money, send me green, heaven you will meet, make a contribution & you'll get a better seat...''

This one is more likely to be the main subject, considering the whole album's theme of ''Being controlled''.

Likely a criticism of tv evangelists. Around the time that song came out (1986), there were a couple of high-profile religious scandals.
