boost mobile unlocked????

Hey I was looking to buy an boost mobile phone on ebay and some sellers say there phones are unlocked what does this mean,and what does having an unlocked phone do for you??

When a cell phone is unlocked it means that the cell phone can be used with a different cell phone carrrier, and your not stuck using that cell phone with only one cell phone company. So that boost phone which uses GSM techonology can be used with either (Cingular, or T-Mobile).
