Ghosts, in my honest opinion, are souls that have not moved on to wherever they are suppost to be. I think that everyone can see them, but certain people can see more than others. I think you need to truly believe that anything can happen to have such an experience.

Now, the realistic views? Well, they might just be figments of our imagination due to loss, tiredness, or sore eyes. Might also be light playing with our eyes.

"Ghosts" if that you wish to call them can be any number of things already listed here. but in my knowledge (14 years old LOL ) those "Ghosts" can in fact real but only in 10% or less of the cases since most can be debunked. However i do believe the the 10% of the ghosts are either too kinds. the FIRST is a type of "ghost" (mostly an energy of some sort) that is like a tape recorder that plays whether you are there or not (mostly an event on how they died or a powerful emotion of the past life) The SECOND is more rare than the other ( if your kid saids they see a "ghost" it is most likely a figment of there imagination) it is called an Intelligent "ghost" that knows that you are there and will or can interact with you. They will be either Evil (if the ghost was channeled from one of those CRAZY boards now a days. Or good that wishes to help. HOWEVER there can be "ghosts" that were people but they CHOOSE or they are LOST and cannot enter the afterlife places ( whatever your religion is) so they are bound to their property OR an object they really liked. But Obviously this is extremely RARE and so you don't have to worry about "ghosts" chasing you down or whatever.

here are few theories.
* they are the imagination playing tricks on the mind
* they are the souls of the dead. lingering for varying reasons
eg. unfinished business.
unresolved emotions/relationships
strong alcohol or substance addiction in life (many old pubs have a resident ghost or 2).
*they are metaphysical beings such as angels/daemons.
* they are psychic echoes of legitimate people/events. they are captured not unlike the images left on negatives when you take a photo or film a video. often these tend to be events or circumstances involving strong emotion.
*they are the higher self/spirit of real living people. acheivable either through astral travel or a strong spiritual/emotional (good or bad) connection to another person.

my opinion, based on personal experiences, is that all of these theories are correct. the hardest thing is to establish which of the above you are encountering.
sometimes people are so desperate to have an experience that they convince themselves they've seen or heard something.
in genuine cases there is nothing to be feared.
i have found most souls will move on if you simply explain that they don't belong here anymore & it's ok for them to leave. if a loved one, make sure that YOU allow them to leave.
if there is any thing/one negative hanging around, firmly tell it/them to leave, visualise yourself/home/family surrounded & engulfed within white light.
angels? just accept it ! you know it's gonna be good.

Ghosts or spirits, are metaphysical beings. They are the ones who haven't crossed over yet. Not all are scary, only the ones who were scary when the were in human form. (just in case you were wondering metaphysical means in the spirit plane, not to patronize you.) Some don't even know they are dead yet.
