..dress codes and whatnot are set because of "proper-ness"
so at my school the girls cannot wear shirts that are lower than the collarbone, skirts that go above the knee and so on..but isnt it the guy's fault in the first place of even thinking about the girl's body? If guys didnt see that as attractive, then it probably wouldnt be considered premiscuous...does that make sense? :-/

Guys Who like girls will see the legs and the cleavage as a turn on. When women wore long dresses some of them wore low neck lines. Proper dress should be a part of life to show that the woman has respect for her own body. Whether or not this will ever be a part of life again is yet to be seen. Perhaps some men who fail to show respect then may have a change of heart. A woman is who they are on the inside not what they wear on the outside just as it is the same for a man. If the style would go back to long dresses those well below the knee and even to the ankle perhaps i could see a purpose for getting out of blue jeans. Something flowing and comfortable. It would help if men also changed their attitude and showed a mutual respect. Both men and women should respect each other. Sometimes i make off the wall comments when something rude is said about women. Who is there to defend us if we do not defend ourselves. I see the point you are making.

I was just reading about this, and part of it is to encourage you to think about your choices.

After graduation, workplaces expect employees to dress conservatively. The usual penalty is the promotion and raise passover. They simply won't take a person who dresses too suggestively seriously.

Schools feel that it their role to help students prepare for the workplace, and really it is supposed to. Hence, la Dress Code. Yes. It sucks.

And take it from me, it doesn't matter how you dress, guys' minds are always in the gutter anyway, so you're dead on with that point.

Boys are very easily distracted by visual cues from girls. Men are genetically programmed to respond to the visual attractiveness of the opposite sex more so than women. Men are programmed to be the "aggressors" in the hunt for a mate and so their response to a womans' visual cues are very strong – almost uncontrollable.
In an effort to overcome these primeval urges in men women have to be a little more careful with how they present themselves.
Don't blame men for this, though... We can't help the way nature made us! It isn't fair for women to have to put up with this but they must also be aware of their power over us.
Most men are too easily swayed by their urges. Some women are too aware of this and use their sexuality as a weapon.
I'd like to apologise on behalf of men but must reaffirm that it's the way we were made and most of us try very hard to keep our urges under control.

(except for theonlydann who can't seem suppress his urge to make stupid comments)
