Are the dorms and the food nice? Give me as much info as possible. And future students, what made u want to apply there? I plan on being a news anchor so is their communications department good? Thanks every1.

You will be on the east campus of UIC. The west campus of UIC is the medical center. The south campus is everything south of Roosevelt near east campus.
UIC is a large, commuter school. To make it feel more comfortable, you should join a club. The physical surroundings of the school has changed much in past few years. The south campus (University Village) project is heading towards completion. There are a lot of nice new shops. In between the east and west campuses, the final public housing on Taylor was finally torn down. The number of banks has increased exponentially.
To get to east campus, you will take the Blue line to UIC/Halsted, and to get to west campus, you can take the Blue line to Medical Center or Pink Line to Polk St. Make sure you get your U-Pass. For $90 per semester, it will give you unlimited CTA trips.
The east side dorms are fairly new (1980s-early 90s), the west side dorms are the oldest (1950s and 1970s), and the south campus dorms are the newest, built in the pass 5 years. The newest dorm Stukel Towers will be opening this fall. I found the dorms to be nice. If you are planning on dorming, apply ASAP because they do not guarantee housing. In the fall, there will be close to 4000 housing spaces.
UIC has a fairly good communications department. They have a couple of famous professors. I took what is considered to be the hardest 100 level communications course: Comm 100.
I'm currently a UIC student on the west campus.

my best friend goes there and she loves the school. she has made alot of good friends and the people are very kind and welcoming. Chicago it a wonderful city with tons of excitement. my friend is now in the masters program but when she first started i visited her in the dorms and student housing and it was very nice, she lived on a co-ed floor. the cafeteria serves good food, and if you dont want to eat there Chicago has a ton of different restaurants. i think you will really like it. sorry i dont know too much about the communications department, but if you want more info i could get my friend to contact you.

I am applying there next year because it is a great school, and it has an excellent location. I alos like the fact that it is a big school, and they have a good pre med program.
