How many blacks have ran for the Senate in the South since reconstruction? Not many, there was one in Tennessee this past year I believe but he lost. Most of the problem is lack of participation in politics by African Americans, and that African Americans only make up about 12% of the population, so the odds of one being elected to the Senate are pretty slim, because they are only Two seats available per state and most Senators serve 20 or 30 years before retirement, especially in Southern States. Most of the problems are demographic ones. Don't be so quick to pin everything to racism.

Racism is more prevalent in the south than anywhere in the US. Remember there is still large population in the south who was alive before the Civil Rights Act was created. Most African American candidates represent the Democrat Party and Democrat President LBJ said after signing the Civil Rights Act, "we've just lost the south for a generation." Unfortunately racism is still a major problem in America that will not be effaced anytime soon. Do not predict a black senator from the south in your lifetime although Harold Ford came close in Tenn. in the midterm elections last year.

to answer your question , after the civil war the white people were disenfranchised , meaning they could not hold public office nor vote, so the carpet baggers installed blacks as congressmen , senators judges and sheriffs, they passed laws for taxes the whites could not pay since e there was no cotton, the white mans land was sold to blacks for pennies on the dollar and the carpet bagger put up the money for this land , and that is how so many blacks own a lot of land in the south now, , the laws were made to hassle the whites and to take away every thing they had, for example, if a black raped a white woman the penalty was 24 hour in jail, for killing a white the most was 90 days, by our own gov, and they had the armed troops to enforce these laws, that is why the K,K,K, was formed, there is a history behind them also, you need to read the rise and fall of the clan by President Woodrow Wilson or any thing other than the Jewish press concerning the clan and you will get a true version,
when the clan was formed they ran the black politicians out of the country or hung them and President Grant gave white rights back to the white people and no blacks held public office again until the 60s and the Kennedy's,

tipzz I have looked at how the black mayors have did in the schools and it is pathitic, our h,s, grads can't read or write, we came in in 5th place against some 3rd world countrys in MATH, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, THIS YEAR AND IN 7TH PLACE AGAINST SOME OTHER COUTRY'S IN OTHER AREAS, yes I would say the blacks have did a damned good job , at destroying our educational system, I would say you are one of the H,S, grads mentioned above.

Democrats do all they can to keep blacks uneducated. Take a look at how well Dem mayors have done with city schools.
