Caffeine clearance from the body continues essentially unchanged during the first trimester of pregnancy, but is substantially delayed during the second and third trimesters, because the half-life of caffeine extends to 10.5 h from a normal of 2.5 h to 4.5 h.2
IS this saying that consumption of caffeine isnt that bad during the first trimester. But does take effect on the baby in the second and third?
Or the opposite? Either way caffeine is bad during pregnancy right?

I asked my Dr about drinking soda, especially Mt.Dew. Love it. She told me that if I want to drink soda drink caffeine Free soda. I thought, oh great no taste but I found out it was really good. I know it's lame but try the Caffeine Free version of your favorite soda. If it tastes bland think, you're doing it for the miracle in your belly and that it is only for 9 months (plus more if you nurse). Also, this way you don't have to worry about what trimester you're in! Hope this helped!

This is talking about a specfic study... that showed ... the time that it took for caffeine to leave the body.... and that the results in the study didnt a show a change.. i would have to read the report... but..... from experience.. :-?? for what thats worth.... Caffeine in excess isn't good... it has side effects.... and a large amount could be passed to your child... I honestly though... don't think that means you can't have an occasional soda or coffee.... I have 3 healthy daughters.. and drank caffeine while pregnant.. My aunt... had a child with a cleft pallet... which they say is commonly due to poor nutrition during pregnancy and she was a health freak.. and didnt consume ANY caffeine .. at all..... EAT healthy.... and eat when your hungry....don't consume too much caffeine or anything for that matter thats not healthy for you and your unborn child........

Caffiene is processed out of your body more quickly during the first trimester.

It is processed more slowly (and stays in your system longer) later in your pregnancy.

Caffiene is best used in moderation during pregnancy. I didn't rule it out completely but I seriously cut back.

Before I got pregnant...I'd have 4 to 8 shots of espresso a day + the coffee...

During pregnancy - 1 maybe 2, 6 ounce cups of half caff

I drank 2 coffees a day through most of my pregnancies. I have 5 children and all are healthy. My most recent is 6 months old and she's perfect! Best baby ever.

Why don't you switch to Decaf?
Sounds like a pretty easy fix to me.
It's o.k. - we understand...the baby is eating your brain - very common in some pregnancies - especially the 1st one.
