I have signed on, signed up and signed off on the Job Boards while searching for an accounting clerk - all functions - position in the Chicagoland area. I also signed in, tested and wait by the phone for the BIG search firms to aid in my search. Is there something I can do to get myself a job? My former company is in litigation with a MAJOR bank in Chicago and I was summarily dismissed from my position as Payroll admin. I have done AR, AP, Billing, collections and other assorted accounting jobs. 3 out of my last 3 jobs have DOWNSIZED!! I am scared and do not know where to go from here. Can anyone help?

Did you go to the Employment department? I too am going to be looking for work in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. I've not been to the Employment Department in Illinois, but I have been in my home state, and they allow you to search for positions from the internet. In addition, they seem to have a higher quality of jobs available than what you might find in other places.

I'm planning to visit the employment department in Illinois, as well as register with a few temp agencies to keep me busy while looking.

Good luck!
