Yes, water is a binary compound. It is composed of two elements - hydrogen and oxygen. Any compound composed of two elements is binary by definition. The subscripts are not important - just that two elements are present.

Examples of binary compounds:
H2O, CO2, CO, AlBr3, CaCl2

Glucose is a TERNARY COMPOUND since it contains 3 elements - carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.

First: Water is a Compound not an Element. Water is not 'Diatomic' as this refers to 2 atoms of the same or different elements in its. makeup. It is probably classed as 'Triatomic' (2 x H and 1 x O) Glucose has 24 atoms - Definitely not di or tri - atomic. Binary and Diatomic mean the same thing = 2 atoms in the make-up.

water is a binary compound, because it contains ONLY 2 elements.

glucose consisting of
C6- carbon
H12 hydrogen
O6 oxygen
would not be a binary compound because it contains more than 2 elements
