Tried that in West Virginia, it doesn't cut it. You will be found guilty because you didn't slow the speed down with your breaks.
However, try to get it down to just paying the fine, and avoid the points.

If you are located far away from TX, call the phone number on the ticket to the Justice of the Peace, Judge, or city judge or what court it is and ask the judges' office clerk just what your options are. You could pay it,( this is the most likely for you to do.) You may be able to take defensive driving. This is best for you.
I have in the past asked the court for " deferred adjudication", which is a form of probation in which you pay a cash fee up front (usually more than $100 plus fees) to the court and in 6 months the court dismisses the ticket. This encourages good driving habit on your part for that time period. The ticket is dismissed only if you have no other violations in that probation period). This may not be available to out- of - staters. However, just call and ask what is available. You only have a few weeks to pay it or do something with it, like call an attorney. If you do nothing, a warrant will be issued for your arrest in TX.
I hope this was helpful. Good Luck!

I have a question for you. Why is it that nimrods like you think they should get a free ride when they screw up. If you can't pay the fine or handle the consequences of your irresponsibility, then quit screwing up! If you are too illiterate to read a speed limit sign then you are too illiterate to have a driver's license. You're guilty, so why don't you man-up and take your medicine. The defensive driving class is to keep the ticket off your driving record, which I think blows, because all it does is encourage a person to keep acting irresponsible. If you don't want to take the class, just pay the fine and let it go on your record where it belongs. Obey the law and you won't have to worry about your record.

A lawyer isn't worth the expense for a traffic violation. I'd go with what your dad suggested--there's no point in trying to plead innocent, and if you can get traffic school, it should reduce your fine and help keep the points (if they do that there) off your license. At least, that's how it works in Kentucky. (Actually, they give us the option of sending in the fees/fines and skipping the court date altogether.)

You're more than 15 over the limit, so you are going to have a fairly serious moving violation.
I don't know if Texas will allow you to do driving school or not. Ask the judge.
