The other morning i went to start my 1999 f150. The exhaust made a deep popping noise, not quite a backfire. After that it started right up, but she ran sluggish and i had to give her more gas than normal. Ever since then it's been running sluggish about half the time, and the rest of the time it drives like normal. The engine sounds the same as it always has. I have never had any engine problems or engine work on this truck before. I did have a wreck a few months ago, but there was no engine damage. What could the problem be?

The engine is not knocking. I did i full tune-up about 20 months/ 25000 miles ago.

Sounds like it may have a clogged injector or possible intermitt. ignition on one cylinder. When you hear it missing, spray some fluid into the intake. If the miss goes away, then you surely have a clogged injector or maybe a bad injector. If it continues to miss, then it's probably a bad plug or plug wire. Good luck.

How long has it been since you changed out your fuel filter and spark plugs? Try that. If it's not performing any better you might have a bad fuel injector.
