Public labeled them as bad words. i bet if i started using the word lapel as a bad word in 10 years it would catch on and it would be concedered a cuss word.

YES YES..i'm aware that man made them up, but why those particular words are chosen as the forbidden ones to use in public. who heard the word S.H.I.T and decided oh no oh no.. that is bad!?

lol thats so true! haha at my school me and my friends started saying "chiping" instead of "********" lol. then the teachers got mad now were not allowed to say it lol. it makes me so chipin mad!

In one sense, you're completely correct. And people *do* realize they're just man-made words.

But as someone else already said, it's the meaning behind them that make the difference.

When I hear someone use the f word in every other sentence, it makes me tired. It tells me they either don't know any better than to leave it out altogether or they don't know how to communicate very well. Or it shows me they have no respect for me. Or they simply don't understand the concept of being polite.

Whether or not something is a cuss word depends on two factors...what the person feels when he or she is using it...and how it makes someone else feel. Yes, they are just words in any language but if you use it to display anger, hatred, bigotry or disrespect...it becomes a cuss word. Or, if another person is made to feel badly because of "how" you said something, then the words become cuss words. You are correct that if you used any other word in that context it would eventually be considered a cuss word. In otherwords....it is the intent.

kinda like douche is now a bad word? 10 years ago douche meant just what it is- a feminine hygiene product now its as common as calling someone a jerk...

it really has nothing to do with the actual word...its what the word was made to represent that is concidered bad.

"curse words" are actually old biblical words used when angry. when your angry you are supposedly possessed by the devil. and are cursed. hense curse words
