Yes, there is. Rather easy too. It depends on the operating system(OS).

For Windows XP just get hold of a Windows 2000 install disk. Set your BIOS to boot first off the CD. Start the install as if you planned on overwriting the OS. When you get to the point where it asks you to enter an administrative password, enter nothing, go to the next screen and shut the computer off. When you reboot there will be no password. You have just erased the SAM file where the passwords are stored.

For Windows 2000 and below make a LINUX boot disk on a floppy. You will need another PC to do this. Set your BIOS to boot off the floppy and either edit or delete the SAM file.

Google is your friend here as there is plenty of help online on how to do this if you do not know Linux.

This depends on the operating system. If it's Windows XP - when the logon screen comes up press Ctrl + Alt + Del twice. Then in the User Name field type 'Administrator' with no quotes, then leave the password field blank. You should gain access.

I highly doubt that all of that will be necessary. Although that is very simple to accomplish - it's extremely complicated regarding the situation. If there is no password on the system administrator account, she can bypass the password without need for any of that. Most likely her grandfather was just a user with administrative privileges.

You need to open the case and get to the motherboard. There you will see what looks like a small, round, flat watch battery. Carefully remove this for 15-20 minutes then put it back in. The pc will load as normal without any password restrictions

On the windows welcome screen press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice and a login box should appear. Then type in Administrator on the Username and leave the password blank. You should be able to login then.
