Please explain to me how to reduce the following expression into lowest terms: 8-4x/-8x-16 and -2b squared - 6b - 4/b squared -1? Can someone please just explain how to solve these problems?

8-4x / -8x-16

Let's take the top and bottom separately;

Top:
8-4x = 4(2-x)

Bottom:
-8x-16 = -8(x+2)

So, now we have:

4(2-x) / -8(x+2)

the 4 and -8 can reduce... -4/8 = -1/2

so we're left with

-(2-x)/2(x+2)

Note: -(2-x) = -2 + x = x-2

So... (x-2)/2(x+2)
----------------
(-2b^2 - 6b - 4) / (b^2 - 1)

top:
-2b^2 - 6b - 4
= -2(b^2 + 3b + 2)
= -2(b+2)(b+1)

bottom:
b^2 - 1 = (b+1)(b-1)

So you've got:
-2(b+2)(b+1) / (b+1)(b-1)

There is a (b+1) on top and bottom, so those cancel out. You're left with

-2(b+2) / (b-1)

assuming for the first one: (8-4x) / (-8x-16)

factor out a 4 from the top and 8 from the bottom, so you would have the following:

(4)(2-x) / (8)(-x-2)

then 4/8 is simplified to 1/2, so you would have:

(2-x) / (2)(-x-2)

or

(2-x) / (-2x-4)

for the other one, assuming it being: (-2b)^2 - (6b- 4/b)^2 -1
you have to expand it, so you would have:

4b^2 - (36b^2 + 16/b^2 - 48) -1

which is equal to:

-32b^2 - 16/b^2 + 47

(8 -4x)/(-8x-16) = (-4x + 8)/(8x-16)
factor -4 from the numerator and 8 from the denominator:

-4( x -2)/8(x-2) = -4/8 = -1/2

The solution of the second one escapes me
