I think that when she has the baby she should put it in just her name. She says people say she should put her boyfriend's name down on the birth certificate. What would be best under the circumstances?

whether she wants to marry him or not is irrelevant to if he is on the birth certificate or not. If he is the father and he acknowledges that than he needs to be on the birth certificate.
In the future when the child looks at the birth certificate it will be nice if they can see their fathers name as well. And if the guy decides not to stick around she can get child suppourt.Whether the child has his last name or hers. Is up to her. I'd go with my own last name though.

a few things your friend needs to keep in mind if she chooses not to put his name on birthcertificate....yes he has no rights to the baby and the baby will have her name which will allow her to later give the baby the name of another man if she marries with no problems..however she is entitled to no child support or help from him as well... and in some states you cannot get public asistance if you dont name a father unless you are a rape victim (they want to be able to get the money back from somewhere). so essentially she is completely on her own with the baby if she doesnt list him. however alot of places also require the father to sign a consent to list his name or a paternity test if the parents arent married (usually the test is only if he refuses to sign).

i wasnt married when i had my daughter. i didnt marry her daddy but i gave her his last name. it just seemed right thing to do for me. And as far as the birth certificate goes, where i live if you arent married you cant put him on the birth certificate until a paternity test is done. we were just able a week ago to get him put on our daughters and she is 2 years old.

its all up to her, sorry, but ya honestly dont' have any say in the matter.

her and him should talk about it, and come up with something that they both agree on. before i got married to my kids dad, his name was on the birth certificate, and wasn't sure if i should give them his last name or not. but its a pride thing with guys... so i went ahead (didn't really matter all that much, just was worried we wouldn't work it out). his name should beon the birth certificate, i mean he is the father and in my opinion that would be a horrible, bit
anyway my main suggestion is, stay outta it.... its up to them. not you.

If she is not sure that she wants to marry this man, then she is sure she DOES NOT want to marry this man. Marrying someone for a child's sake can be grief. Tell her to have her baby, and put it in her name.

It is really up to her, but regardless if she wants to marry her bf or not it is still his child. One suggestion is to hyphenate with both their last names. Besides she is not sure if she wants to marry him, what if she does then she is going to have to pay to have the baby's last name changed.

Its up to her. Her child will eventually have a different last as hers if she gets married later in the future. Maybe having his/her fathers last name will mean a lot to the child. I know it does my daughter.

if the baby is the boyfriends, then the baby should have his name. even if they don't marry, the court will have the proof that the baby is his, so she will get support.
if the baby is under her name only, her boyfriend can't be made to pay.
if she didn't want marriage, why have a kid?

if she loves him, and he's willing to stick together with her, then yeah, both name's should be on the BC
but if they look like they're about to split, then just her's
