The amount that it hurts is entirely dependant on your personal pain threshold, it is different for everyone. I will tell you that a hollow sterile piercing needle is the least painful way based on the fact that it is sharper and faster. If your friend is a pro piercer then go for it, if not then go to a professional rather then risk damage that can not be undone without plastic surgery. Also it is important that all the equipment to be used is sterile (alcohol and boiling water do not kill everything they need to kill), the equipment to be used needs to be run through an autoclave or you put yourself at risk for an infection.
In addition to the above please don't go to a claire's or piercing pagoda, they use piercing guns, there are a million resons not to get anything pierced with a gun especially cartiladge. Just do a yahoo search on the dangers of piercing guns to see why.

Yes it will hurt if your friend does it unless they are a professional. I got mine done by a pro and it hurt very little. The pain came when I didn't take care of the piercing like I should have and it got infected. Another reason you should go to a professional, you can scar your ear if you aren't instructed on the proper care. I was so instructed, I was just young and stupid. :)

I used to do body piercings, there are nerves in the ear that can be damaged by an amature piercer. Go to a professional to avoid this. And yes, it will hurt.

I did mine myself with an earing, besides the incontrovertible fact that it hasn't have been given contaminated i would not propose it in case you may nonetheless sparkling it in the previous and after and proceed to bathe it, you would be superb off going to a expert, ear piercings are no longer that costly and may be worry unfastened if completed wisely, wish this helps

I got mine done from a plastic surgeon and he gave me a numbing shot before. The shot stung, but when he stuck the needle through my ear, I felt nothing. He didnt use a gun, just stuck a needle through my ear. My sister got it done from a piercing place, and they don't use numbing shots, so i'm sure it didnt feel too good.

it all depends on who u are. me and 3 friends all got it done at the same time by the same piercer. mine didn't hurt at all, but my friend said hers hurt really bad, and my other friend said hers felt just like her lobes did. but about 5 months later we all had to take them out because the got infected. the guy who pierced us was a professional and looked clean.
p.s. don't go swimming fir a while. it really hurts.

Get it done professionally. It's inexpensive, and a whole lot less risky.
