My daughters room faces east and is really hot from noon until sunset. I saw window film at Home Depot but it was $35, have any cheaper quick fixes? Besides foil...thanks

You can get the film much cheaper from lakeside collections...

First, get rid of the black curtain. Black absorbs solar heat, truthfully, any dark color. Put up white or a very light color instead. That will reflect the heat back out. You can buy an insulated pull shade or use automotive window tint on the window to help too. Another idea is to cover some foam board with foil and stick that in the window. And keep your bedroom door closed since you now have a window a/c unit. Good Luck!

First, I think you mean the room faces west, unless the sun is setting in a different place for you than everyone else. Awnings are a good solution, but cost way more than $35. If you want to spend less than that, you are going to have to look for a really cheap roll up shade.

I have heard of there being a star in the east, but never of the sun shining in a east window in the after noon. Best you sign up with Believe it or not Ripley.

Insulated drapes might keep the star light out, this would make it cooler

Aim the blinds up so that the sun and heat go straight to the ceiling, not down at the level where you all are living (because heat rises anyways). Consider getting a ceiling fan for her room.

Awnings rock. The old-fashioned roll up, pull-down window blinds work well. For longer term - you might consider planting a shrub or tree that will shade the window.

The window film works real good. Its not that expensive. It has to be installed right. Follow the instructions

That isn't that expensive. I was going to suggest getting a new window that has the gas in it that it won't pass the heat or cold thru.
