I've heard people say that Jordan is the best. But is it possible that he was the best in HIS time? He has all this competition now. LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Garnett, Vince Carter, Steve Nash and ect. Could he still be the best out of all of these players in his way? Or could he have just had no competition at the time which made him an excellent player. Any opinions?

Best at his time- in a few years, Kobe could win against Jordan.

YES!!! Michael Jordan is the world's greatest, and there will never be anyone like him. I'm so glad that I grew up in the 90's because that's when the NBA was at it's best, and it really was the glory days. There was Stockton, Malone, Barkley, Reggie Miller, Olajuwon, Ewing, all those legends...and of course his Airness, the one and only Jordan. That's the real NBA right there, and I miss those good old days. Now, the NBA is just not the same anymore, it lacks what it used to have...because it's only concerned with promoting image, that's why Wade and James, and Kobe are hyped so much. Michael Jordan could easily beat Kobe, Wade, and LeBron on any day back during the height of the Jordan era. He really is the best, and all these media darlings now are only a fraction of what Jordan is. There will never be anyone who even comes close to Jordan. I wish we could go back to that wonderful Jordan and NBA on NBC era.

No, I know for fact that Jordan is not the best. The only people who say he is do not know anything about basketball.

I just posted a similar question on here, and not one person could give me a valid reason why he's the best. Why? Because Jordan was all hype and promotion, period.

Wilt Chamberlain was a MUCH better scorer, Bill Russell, "Satch" Sanders, Sam Jones, KC, Jones, and John Havlicek all have more rings, and Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Oscar Robertson are better all-around players than Jordan.

Could Jordan hold his own against these players today? It all depends on what players are around him. MJ did not win those titles by himself. He had Pippen, Grant, and Rodman. Take ONE of these players off the Bulls, and Jordan doesn't win, that's been proven.

Players like Lebron and Wade are every bit as talented as Jordan was. As long as their front office puts players around them, there's no reason not to believe they will win some championships.

I would have to say that you would be right in claiming how it would be and is difficult to label Jordan as the best or if any other players are as good as Jordan. It's the same for any sport; as time progresses and advancements are made in the sports in every regard the knowledge and understanding grows and with that skill. Jordan is in the same category as other greats like Gretzky or Muhammad Ali; 'A' calibur players who created or rather inspired increased awareness for their sport as a result of thei dazzling performances. With the population of the world up and the general progression of man kind, the talent in every sport will always be growing and with new hurdles passed, but who will every forget the greats that were in the spotlight during a time in the worlds history (predominantly North American) when information was so easy to access and so much money to be made.

It's not as though Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Clyde Drexler, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Karl Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, Reggie Miller, Shaquille O'Neal, David Robinson, or John Stockton played during Michael Jordan's era.

NO. Bill Russell equalled MJ's 5 MVPs, but almost doubled his rings with 11.

If Kobe went against any player 1 on 1, and the other player was at the top of their game, Kobe would win no doubt. Kobe isn't at the top of his game yet...in a year or two when he gets even better..he will be no doubt the best player to ever played the game of basketball.

Jordan was the best in his time but if you are going to compare him againts the "futures" he might not stand a chance. He sucked when he was in Wizards, the reason maybe because he was getting old causing him to lost his magic touch.
