Neuroscience is important because it adds to our understanding of the brain-behavior relationship. Ultimately, this field can advance our knowledge of how to develop successful interventions for patients with different types of brian damage or other disorders that affect the hippocampus.

Isn't the hippocampus the part of the brain that stores information and memories for a short time before they become permanent and move to the cerebral cortex of the brain to be stored as long term memory. The hippocampus is likely to be damaged or affected when it suffers trauma (for some reason, i can't remember now), so the memories that are in there are lost and/or memories for around the time of the trauma are unable to be stored in the hippocampus, so are never formed. This is often why people cant remember events that occurs right before the trauma or straight after it. Something like that. Is that kind of what you are asking?

To know what and how something is broken is to someday be able to repair it.
