What kind of catheter are you talking about? A Foley cath, for urine? I don't know about that one. An IV cath in your vein? That's usually the standard, even for natural delivery, just in case something should happen.

I had a vaginal delivery, and they gave me both a urine catheter and and IV one. I honestly didn't even notice them til after the delivery, though, as the contractions had all of my attention! The IV is as a precaution in case you have to have an emergency c-section. Not sure why they did the other, though. Ask you doctor.

No, I had a natural delivery and no catheter. Usually they will tell you to use a bed pan.

I don't think so...I was in labor for 14 hours and they had me limping to the toilet to pee....as soon as they decided we were going c-section...they put it in...(they do it after the spinal block and you don't even feel it - even when they take it out two days later - you don't feel it)
