i think that the law should be that it illegal to sell booze to a woman that is pregnant . i was in a bar once and this woman who was huge was behind me and she was drinking one after another anyway the lady was as drunk as a person can get . then her water broke . she had the baby with the help of the ambulance workers right in the back of the bar.
sure it would be hard to tell if the woman was pregnant and they will complain about all this nonsense its my body . well sorry lady its also the home of a innocent little baby so tough.
smoking not great but there is already too many intrusions into a persons life. with this position people will say its unbalanced with other laws related to smoking.
i do know that kids who have fetal alcohol syndrome are screwed i have looked after them and life is light years from being normal .
so all in all i say massive government education TV media ads with info on the effect of drinking and smoking while pregnant is more the way to go . after that a woman that is found to be drunk should undergo a test to see if she is pregnant and if she is she should have to stay in custody until the baby is born .
drinking while pregnant should be treated as child abuse or neglect

No. There are many reasons behind this but the main reason is it couldn't be enforced. A pregnant woman can appear completely normal [as in not showing] for her entire pregnancy. A pregnant woman doesn't have to go to the doctor her entire pregnancy. So how would you enforce this law towards all pregnant women? It wouldn't be possible.

A pregnant woman who watches TV, looks at advertising, picks up a magazine, or merely goes to Walmart knows that alcohol and cigarettes can damage her child's health. A woman would practically have to be in the middle of nowhere to not hear about the effects of drinking and smoking pregnant or not. It’s not like they do not have warnings. Women who do choose to drink or smoke during their pregnancies know the consequences. They know that their child will be taken away if born with FAS. They know if they have a low-birth weight baby with severe damage done to his/her body will be checked into and could result in a child protective case.

Pregnant woman KNOW what’s going on--they just choose to ignore it. This is the same with anyone who drinks or smokes PERIOD. Do you remember the prohibition act back in the day? People still drank just as people still smoke marijuana--it’s just not worth it. We are so busy taking away rights which is counter productive. Isn’t the constitution there to PROTECT them?

Drinking is not against law and pregnancy is also not against law. But it has to be while seeing the increasing population of the world. It does not do any harm and when it is so, how can I see some problems with mine or your position.

Well, if unborn children were protected by law from being harmed by their mothers, I would think mothers by law would not be able to drink and smoke. This would constitute child abuse. But, since the status of being a person rests entirely on the whim of the mother, I don't see how this can be stopped. If it is her prerogative to end the unborn child's life, wouldn't it be hypocrisy to insist that she abstain from abusing this same child? "I can't hurt you, but I can kill you." That's insanely contradictory.

Well this a tough one. Smoking is soooo bad for you and full of chemicals, toxins, cancer causing agents, etc. Making it illegal for a pregnant woman to not be able to have a very rare glass of wine in later pregnancy is pretty ridiculous. Smoking 5 cigarettes a day is basically suffocating your baby. A glass of wine spread over a few hours with food is not going to kill your child. A woman who drinks regularly or binge drinks, that is a different story.

While they're at it, why not make fast food illegal to fatasses? If you weight over 110 pounds, no bigmac for you. There are certian places the government should not involve themselves with. Our children, our love lives, our diet, our choice of drinks and cigarettes if we choose, shoud be none of the government's decision. At this rate, we don't live in a very free country do we? People keep complaining about something until it is illegal. Then it just repeats.

And the next thing we know is that the government will require licenses from people before they allow them to have kids. It is not for the government to tell what we can do with our bodies. So my answer is no, and hell NO, and i see no problem with my position.

i think that it should be illigal for pregnant women to drink, and not illegal for them to smoke. Smoking is an addiction, but i don't believe that drinking is and it has more harmful affects on an unborn child. Don't get me wrong, smoking is still really bad for the baby, but it's an addiction. You can't just stop unless you have the will power and wanting to. Making it illegal won't stop anyone, just generate more fines for people who can't afford them already. If the pregnant woman really cares, she'll quite. I did.
