an afternoon is enough to see stare mesto (old city). honestly, bratislava is my least favorite place in slovakia. i prefer banska stiavnica, banska bystrica, prievidza (bojnice), trnava, trencin, kosice, and presov. but i don't know if you have time for all that. but anyways, i'd still reccomend the day trip to bratislava. u can check out the castle, old town square, obchodna street, hviezdoslav square, michaels gate, national theatre building, and a whole bunch of cathedrals in that time. don't forget to drink some slovak beer, it's great. lots of good resteraunts in the center, if you go to slovak pub on obchodna street everything is in english and the waiters speak it.

Vienna is much more beautiful... Bratislava is fine perhaps for a one day trip but it all depends on what other areas you'll be traveling in. Prague, Budapest and Vienna are all much more cosmopolitan and nicer destinations than Bratislava... it has some charm but still seems to hold on to that Eastern bloc mentality... which is nice I guess if you like that sort of thing. Better yet... go there for a day and then take an inexpensive flight down to Dubrovnik... THERE you can spend a few days... it's a wonderful place.

I missed my flight from Vienna to Washington D.C. back in 2003 and I had to get a room there for the night. I went out for the night and spent 200 euro's on obsolutely nothing until my cab driver suggested we head to Bratislava it was only 110 kilometers or something like that. We got there and I missed my flight again and let me tell you I'd do it over and over, and over because what takes places in Bratislava stays in Bratislava. if you like hot model looking chicks than go to Bratislava.

I've never been there but my friend has. Nice, similiar to Prague. But I definitely suggest Prague. Maybe one day I'll visit Bratislava, Republic of Slovakia since my father lives in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Positive.
Old town is beautiful, price level for everything "touristry" like accommodation, food, beer, local travel etc. is very cheap.
